    Our Focus on Employment

At Local Heart Community, we believe employment is about more than just financial security — it’s about purpose, identity, connection, and a sense of belonging.

    Independent Living Skills

At Local Heart Community, we support participants to develop the practical life skills they need to live more independently and confidently.

We know that everyday tasks like cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and using public transport can feel overwhelming — especially for those navigating barriers like disability, mental health challenges, or limited support. That’s why our mentors work side-by-side with participants, offering hands-on guidance, encouragement, and strategies tailored to each person’s needs and pace.

Our goal is to build skills for life — helping participants take greater control of their daily routines and feel proud of their progress.

    Examples include:

    Cooking simple, healthy meals together

Learning how to manage cleaning and home organisation

Practising catching public transport confidently and safely

Supporting time management, budgeting, and shopping

Helping set up and maintain routines for daily living
